Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, has a wonderful old town, amazing views and plenty of museums to explore. The city is spread across 14 islands which means you are never far from the water, which makes for a pleasant atmosphere. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and has a long history since it was founded by the Thracians as ‘Serdica’. It’s since been controlled by the Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans and became the capital of the newly liberated Bulgarian Kingdom in 1879.
