Some of the artwork on display at The National Museum in Warsaw. All by Polish painters.
The Monument to the Ghetto Heroes is a memorial to those who took part in the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. As the Nazis moved into the Ghetto to send the remaining 60,000 to the death camps the Armed Jewish Resistance fought them in a final act of defiance. The memorial is in the area of the former Ghetto and a reminder of the horrific events the Jews endured during World War 2.
Some pics of Warsaw's Old Town, which was wonderfully rebuilt after its destruction in World War 2. #visitpoland #warsaw #oldtown
More pics of Gdańsk because it's a lovely city and the Polish have done an amazing job rebuilding it after the destruction of World War 2. Pic 4 shows a view out towards the Baltic Sea for geographical reference! #visitpoland #visitgdańsk #travel #instatravel #travelblogger #poland
Gdańsk is a lovely city! #visitpoland #travel #instatravel
At 04:48 on the 1st September 1939 the German warship Schleswig-Holstein fired at the Polish garrison at Westerplatter, the northern part of the free city of Danzig (now Gdansk). And so began the first battle of World War 2. The defenders managed to hold out for 7 days and this monument commemorates them.
